Pet Peeve

Something that really bothers me about human beings is that they are fake. One minor way that it repeatedly shows is the use of the phrase "no pun intended" and you can picture them patting themselves on the back. The phrase "no pun intended" actually draws a person's attention to the pun, that indeed the author intended. If they hadn't mentioned it, there would be a good chance the reader would not have noticed. Thus, the phrase "no pun intended" in writing is annoying, but even more annoying is when a person says it and has that smile on their face or in their eyes. People think they are so clever, but people who fish for compliments or want a pat on the back for their drivel pisses me off. It would be so much simpler to simply change their diction if they truly meant "no pun intended." This is a classic example of bullshit.
